The largest choir concert in Sweden in 33 years when 3333 music class students sing at Together In Tune in Avicii Arena May 19
At a packed Avicii Arena in Stockholm on May 19th, it's time for the choir concert Together In Tune: Sweden's largest choir.
This time, students from 15 different schools from all over the country will participate. 3333 children in grades 4–9 will be accompanied by the Army Music Corps (45 musicians) and a band with experienced musicians who are all connected to the music class activities. The emcee is the actor Emma Peters (Grotesco, White Lies). As a student at Täby Music Classes, Emma participated in the first concert in 1993.
More about Together in Tune
When the Globen was newly built in 1993, 4000 students from music classes around the country gathered for a joint choir concert. Now that the iconic building is celebrating five years as the Avicii Arena and as a platform for young people's mental health, a follow-up concert is being held with the support of the Tim Bergling Foundation.
- Music can mean an enormous amount to young people, both as an expression and as a community. When many voices sing together, it can create a strong feeling that is truly touching. Having so many students on stage together in the Avicii Arena is a very powerful experience, and we are happy to be able to be part of making Together In Tune possible, which highlights the importance of music for the well-being of young people, says Klas Bergling, founder of the Tim Bergling Foundation.
3,333 students from 15 different Swedish schools are participating in the unique concert led by actor Emma Peters.
It was mainly during the 1980s that music classes were started in many municipalities. They later formed a network to exchange experiences and develop the activities. On the initiative of Adolf Fredrik's Music Classes in Stockholm, the first music class concert was held in 1993 in the then newly built Globen.
– I was a music teacher at the concert in 1993 with my first classes and remember it as something fantastic. I am grateful that even now, 33 years later, I can be there again with a new generation of students. To see and hear everyone sharing the joy of music together – that power and community is something unique, powerful and moving. Together we carry on a choral tradition that is important for our cultural heritage, says Gitte Littwold, music teacher at Täby Musikklasser.
The initiative for the concert comes from the music classes and it is made possible through close collaboration between the schools and the Tim Bergling Foundation.
With Avicii Arena, which celebrates its fifth anniversary on May 19, the Tim Bergling Foundation, together with Stockholm Live, has created a platform to draw attention to and strengthen the work around young people's mental health and well-being.
– The Tim Bergling Foundation makes it possible for all these children and young people to meet and share the togetherness and language of music with each other, we are so grateful and happy for that, says Elisabeth Westlund, choir director and music teacher with experience from Nacka Musikklasser and Uppsala Musikklassiker, as well as initiator and project manager for Together in Tune.
