All emotions are okay!

More and more young people need tools to manage their feelings. That’s why the Avicii Arena Initiative has created the Emotion Lab, a practical guide full of resources to break the stigma around the most valuable thing we have—our emotions.

This is the Emotion Lab

The Emotion Lab is an interactive workshop filled with exercises designed to create a space where young people can talk about emotions in a group setting and become more aware of how these emotions affect thoughts, actions, and relationships. By being able to identify and express emotions, emotional intelligence is also strengthened, leading to a better ability to understand and manage both one’s own and others’ emotions.

The Emotion Lab’s exercises promote a safe community where participants can reflect, give and receive feedback, and support each other. In addition, strategies are taught for managing difficult emotions and preserving what feels good.

About the Workshop

The workshop is conducted in groups with a facilitator. All the materials you need to run the Emotion Lab with your team can be found here. It includes:

  • Presentation materials for the whole group to view together
  • Information for the facilitator in a separate document

The workshop can be held almost anywhere, but keep in mind that it’s helpful to have access to a screen for viewing, post-it notes, and pens.

For those working closely with young people

If you work closely with young people in your professional role, such as in schools, youth centers, student health services, or youth clinics, you can use the Emotion Lab as part of your work to provide young people with tools to manage their own and others’ emotions.

For those involved in youth activities

If you are involved in voluntary youth activities, such as coaching, training, or working with youth organizations, you can use the Emotion Lab to strengthen cohesion and trust within groups.

For young people

If you’re young yourself, you can use the Emotion Lab together with an adult facilitator. You can always reach out to trusted adults and tell them about the Emotion Lab.
